Halloween + 2020
How are you celebrating Halloween this year? Are you going out? Staying in? Obviously with Harlow's respiratory history and everything that comes along with this season this year, we've decided to stay home. And while we may walk around the neighborhood to see some fun decorations, we'll most likely keep our distance! We've already promised Race lots of candy and he still plans to dress up as a plague doctor from the SCP foundation 049, he insisted I put all that in there haha, so it hasn't seemed to put a damper on his spirits. So I was thinking what could I do at home to keep the excitement of Halloween alive? I did some searching and thinking and I've come up with some things I'd like to share. Alot of these are probably not new ideas and I've seen alot on Pinterest or just around the web.
The first thing, and the thing we always do, is just go BIG with your decorations! Race and Harlow are always so excited to get Halloween out of storage and get it all up! We started this past weekend but we have alot more to do!
What about a Halloween countdown?? We count down to Christmas, birthday parties and even the last day of school. It would be fun to do different spooky treats each day or a Halloween countdown chain. Here's a cute one from Easy Peasy and fun.
Here is an obvious one, pumpkin carving party! Make it a big event! If you are socially distancing set up a Google meet to do it with friends and family! You could even have a contest to see who could make the scariest or craziest pumpkin carving! It would be fun to show off your designs to your friends and family!
Have a spooky dinner night! I've seen so many ideas all over Pinterest with spooky meals! We definitely plan to do the meatloaf hand and mummy hotdogs! It would be fun to have a whole spooky dining setup for a night! Here's a couple I found on Pinterest.
Make a Halloween gingerbread house! I've seen some kits out this year so this could be really simple! You could also make your own dough and cut out the house yourself which would also be fun to have kids help and have a Halloween baking party! Be sure to check out pretty life girls Halloween gingerbread house!
This next one would only work if you had a fireplace or a backyard fire pit. You could tell ghost stories by the fire. An easy and simple fun activity. You could even roast some marshmallows for s'mores and have hot cocoa while you're outside.
Take a 'hayride' around the neighborhood! Load up your wagon with a haybale from the store and take a walk around your neighborhood during the day. You could even do a Halloween bingo or I-spy while you're out walking around!
Which brings me to my next idea! Have a fall scavenger hunt! There are lots of printables around the web or you could even make your own list of things you already know are around your neighborhood.
And lastly don't forget to go boo-ing! I vaguely remember this last year, however I have seen so many more posts for this this year because of covid! It's a fun simple way to surprise people who may not be able to get out! You just simply leave them some treats of your choice with note asking them to continue the boo-ing and boo someone else! I think this is something we are definitely going to try!
And if you do decide to go out just make sure whatever you plan is safe for all! I have already heard of people doing candy chutes or candy ziplines. So it may be fun to see what people come up with!
So I'm sure there are many more good ideas! If you want to share, leave some ideas in the comments! I'd love to hear what your plans are for Halloween! Happy Halloween!
